Welcome, I’m Lauren
Hi everyone, I’m Lauren Young, a Psychotherapist from Ayrshire, Scotland.
I am passionate about working with people to navigate the overwhelm of constantly caring for others and who prioritise their to do list rather than own needs. Life can be tough, and finding the strength to look after yourself and ask for what you need is so important for reclaiming your well-being and confidence.
A little bit about me…
Discovery purpose in therapy
I love being a therapist. Before this role I didn’t know where I fit, my purpose, or know what truly fulfilled my desire to help people. I found my passion in therapy. Working with people to come back from burnout, boost their confidence and work through the anxiety that holds them back has been life-changing for me.
Coming from a place of personal understanding of burnout and anxiety and the devastating ripple effects of mental health, I believe everyone desires the right to support.
Professional experience
I have worked in an education and therapeutic capacity for over twelve years, in various charities, councils, schools and universities. I am a fully accredited member of BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists), insured by Holistic and I have Supervision twice monthly to support my own practice. As well as working in my own private practice, I provide counselling for a secondary school two days a week.
Outside of work, you'll find me with my three dogs—Rufus, an Airedale Terrier, and Jonah and Freddie, my Miniature Dachshunds.
I love to read and I have at least two books on the go at all times. One is typically work-related whilst the other provides me with some light relief.
Attending weekly Pilates is one of my non-negotiables. Finding myself at a desk most of the week, moving my body is essential for both my mental and physical health.
Exploring new places is where I feel the biggest sense of freedom. There’s nothing better than soaking up diverse cultures, experiences and branching out to new opportunities. One standout memory is adventuring on a dog sled in the freezing -35 temperatures of Banff, Canada.
